Genetic Testing on Miscarriage Tissue

If you are experiencing a pregnancy loss, we know this can be an overwhelming and devastating time. If this is a first trimester loss, your doctor may have told you that the most likely cause is a random chromosome error that was totally out of your control. This is true for 50-60% of first trimester losses. Genetic testing can be performed on the miscarried tissue, to determine if your loss was due to a chromosome error.

If you’re in Canada and are interested in this testing but your doctor wasn’t able to arrange it for you, we can help.

How it works

Get in touch

If you are currently bleeding, reach out for an urgent appointment. In the meantime you can collect any tissue in a sterile container, like a Ziploc bag or Tupperware.

If you haven’t started bleeding yet, book a discovery call on our website or contact us for more information.

Meet with us to learn more

You will meet with Meaghan Doyle, a Certified Genetic Counselor, to learn more about the testing. She will walk you through everything you need to know during your first call including what the test does, costs, process, and more. There is no obligation to proceed with testing if you don’t feel it’s right for you after speaking with her.

Test Requisition

As a genetic counsellor, Meaghan isn’t able to order your test for you, but she’ll support you every step of the way. She’ll provide you with a test requisition form to give to your doctor to sign. This could be your family doctor, fertility doctor, or any doctor involved in your care.

Sample Collection

A sample collection kit will be sent to your home. If you have your loss at home we’ll walk you through what you need to do to collect the sample and send it to the lab for testing. If you’re having a D&C you can bring the kit to your clinic so they can collect the sample for you.

Emotional Support

We understand how difficult, and often traumatic it can be to lose your baby. Meaghan and the staff at Femade are available to support you while you wait for results, or any time you are struggling because you’ve lost your baby.

Result Review

All patients who work DNAide and Femade for POC testing will meet with Meaghan to review results when they are available. Results usually take 7-10 days, and Meaghan will contact you to book a review appointment when they are almost ready.
